HELLGATE: London, a horror action RPG, has returned from the grave and is available on Steam, but without its multiplayer segment.
First-person shooters with RPG elements weren’t that common back in 2006. There were some, but most of them were pretty horrible. These days you have games like Destiny 2. But, that isn’t really a game which has demons and zombies and other evil baddies. Those can be found in DOOM. But, once upon a time, back in 2006, there was a game called HELLGATE: London. It was a first-person shooter with RPG elements with a grim setting, demons, lots of loot to find, and many different classes.
HELLGATE: London then got a multiplayer component, which was briefly popular. After a while, the player base disappeared, and so did the game. Now the game is back on Steam, surprisingly, but it does not contain the multiplayer segment, which is strange. The devs are still testing the Tokyo part of the game, which includes multiplayer, and it will be released later.
We found it funny how the devs had to explicitly mention that HELLGATE: Tokyo is coming as a free update, and that it won’t contain a cash-shop. It seems like in this day and age you actively have to tell people that your game won’t be pay2win.
HELLGATE: London was quite the experience back in the day, but we wonder if it aged well. Have you ever heard of this title? If not, will you be playing it? Or do you plan on waiting until multiplayer arrives? Let us know in the comments section below!
