Halo: Infinite Being Worked On By Two Teams?
It goes without saying that Halo is the most important franchise in the Xbox roster. It was the game that helped make the original Xbox a name. It was a shooter that helped modernize what the first-person shooter could be. It also helped bring in online gameplay to shooter titles in a way that was meaningful. Its original three games are heralded as one of the greatest trilogies of all time. But, the last two entries haven’t been as beloved. So Microsoft is hedging everything on their next main title, Halo: Infinite.
The game was revealed at E3 2018, much to the joy of many fans. But all that was shown was a teaser of Master Chief holding his helmet to the side. We were able to see that the game is getting a serious graphical update based on the teaser, but that was it. Now though, details are coming out that Halo: Infinite will actually be made by two teams.
The first team is obviously 343 Industries, who have been working on Halo since Halo 4, which was the first game Bungie didn’t make in the mainline series. But now, reports are saying that Skybox Labs will be helping them make the game this time. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Skybox worked on Halo 5, specifically, Forge Mode. But with Halo: Infinite, they’re apparently going to have a more in-depth role, helping out with AI, gameplay, and more.
Chris Lee from 343 had this to say on the matter:
“343 Industries is excited to continue our partnership with SkyBox Labs on Halo: Infinite, with their team doing great work across many areas of our project,” he said.
The big question now is, why do they need a second team on this title? Is it so big that the extra hands are required? Or is it something else entirely? Guess we won’t know until the game comes out.
