If you’ve been paying attention to the NPD numbers over the last year or so, you’ll know that Grand Theft Auto 5 is still selling very well. In fact, it’s actually quite insane how consistently it sells, to to the extent that not even gaming analysts can explain why it sells. But, despite the sales a question many gamers have had for a while now is when will the next Grand Theft Auto game arrive? Well, on GTA Online, some gamers have received a message saying GTA VI will arrive…next year.
Now, before you say something like, “Oh, this is probably a trick or a hoax”, there are some things you should know. First and foremost, this has happened to several players, with all of said players posing a pic of the “announcement” on the Rockstar forums. Furthermore, the announcement came via the official Rockstar messages, and since it happened on GTA Online, this cannot be faked.
Naturally, Rockstar Games has not given an official announcement to state whether this message is true or not. And it’s very possible that this announcement is real, but mistimed, due to a programming glitch or other mixup within Rockstar. But as you can see via the picture above, the message seems to indicate that GTA VI really is coming next year. Which, would make it the latest confirmed title to be coming in that year.
If there’s any downside to this reveal, it’s that this now puts a lot of pressure on Rockstar Games to try and duplicate the success of GTA V. As noted in the beginning of this piece, this game has sold so many copies it’s insane, it’s nearing 100 million sold. So now, Rockstar has to try and make this game so appealing that it can mimic that.
Will it? Hard to say.
