GGG Disabled Loot Boxes For One Gambling Addict
Gambling addiction is no joke, that’s why Grinding Gear Games disabled loot box purchases for one of their players.
Like any addiction, the struggle of fighting your gambling urges is a difficult one. That’s why one person decided to deal with their addiction by playing video games. As most of us can imagine, this isn’t the best idea since a lot of games have their own form of gambling in them, at least today. The prime example being loot boxes, which are present in Path of Exile, that action-RPG that looked like what Diablo 3 should have been.
As Cadence explained in her Reddit post, Path of Exile gave her many ways of obtaining that thrill of gambling, but without losing money in the process in the beginning. That’s the whole idea, and she is one of the people that have supported the game ever since 2012. A lot has happened since then, and the game expanded greatly. Many other things were added, one of them being mystery boxes. These work a lot like gambling, don’t they? Yes, they do, and after some time Cadence gave in to her urges and started buying these boxes.
It all quickly became a problem, and she was spending too much money on the game. She reached out to GGG, the developers, and she got a response. Being the great people that they are, GGG disabled Cadence’s option to buy mystery boxes for good until a given date. She even told them not to lift this restriction even if she tells them to, and GGG complied.
Isn’t it funny how these gestures and acts of kindness from developers aren’t very often? Well, not really funny, tragic would be a more appropriate word.
