George R.R. Martin said that Elden Ring is a Dark Souls sequel without explaining much which just left everyone confused even more.
Elden Ring has everything you’d expect from FromSoftware. Mysterious and confusing worldbuilding, glorious and antagonistic characters, stunning architecture, and lots of backstories dispersed throughout the world.
FromSoftware has its own way of making RPGs, and its formula is immensely successful and hard to copy. But now they’ve enlisted the help of R.R. Martin to help them craft a perfect dark fantasy world. One fit to be a sequel to Dark Souls.
Well, our main man George just went and said in an interview that Elden Ring IS a Dark Souls sequel. Everyone knew that already, but his confirmation is significant. I think everyone’s wondering if FromSoftware’s ready to move on from Dark Souls. Will they ever return to that franchise? Or is this the beginning of the Elden Ring era?
Elden Ring is an evolution of its formula that wants to appeal to a broader audience. That much is certain from what we know about the game. Healing is easier, the world is open but split with dungeons that all contain the main boss. And the addition of George R.R. Martin adds more hype and recognition to the game.
What do you say, is FromSoftware able to deliver a new and improved Dark Souls with Elden Ring?
