Gaming Disorder Is Now A Real Disease
Seems like the addiction to video games is a serious thing now, at least according to The World Health Organization.
Don’t play too much Fortnite kids, as it can lead to a severe case of “Gaming Disorder”. It’s not a joke actually, as the World Health Organisation actually confirmed that this is a real thing. Those of us that can’t really control how much time we’re actually spending in front of our computer or console is now a problem that has been recognized by the world as something dangerous.
This happened during the 72nd World Health Assembly that took place in Geneva, Switzerland two days ago, as reported by PC Gamer. So, how exactly is this “condition” recognized as? Well, it is often found in individuals that are plagued by things like “persistent or recurring gaming behavior”. Basically, spending too much time playing games. While this can often really be a problem, it is definitely not so severe for it to be a mental disorder.
Anyone that enjoys gaming so much that they ignore other aspects of life has the “gaming disorder”. Meaning, doing too much of something you like makes you have a mental problem. While there definitely is a problem when it comes to certain young kids getting too addicted to their favorite game, it is something that is easy to stop. Parents just have to limit the amount of time their child spends in front of the monitor.
As expected, a lot of important people from the gaming industry think WHO needs to reevaluate this decision, claiming there is not enough robust evidence for such claims. Now we wait and see if “gaming disorder” is here to stay.
