Friday the 13th: The Game Developers Can’t Make New Content
What’s the deal with lawsuits in the video game industry lately? It seems like everyone is taking someone to court for certain reasons, some stupid and others justified, but now we have an interesting one. The developers of Friday the 13th: The Game are currently struggling with a lawsuit which is keeping them from making any new content for their title, which is a big problem for them. As this effectively halts game development, it means that they need to resolve the lawsuit between them and Sean Cunningham and Victor Miller, the producer and the guy that wrote the script for the first Friday the 13th film.
They had a lot of trouble with these legal issues of theirs, and fans have been wondering why have they kept quiet all this time. Well, now we know what’s the deal with them and making new content, and on their forum they said:
Development on games can’t just pause indefinitely and pick back up again; it doesn’t work that way. Especially when you have no idea when that future date will occur. We can’t keep building content that may never see the light of day. That’s bad business. I’ve also had questions about adding “non-F13” related content to the game. “Can’t you make a new level or a new counselor that has nothing to do with the films?” We can’t do that either. We can’t add any content, whatsoever. Nada. Not even a new tree or rock. We can only focus on console dedicated servers, bug fixes, and maintenance.
Well, this is definitely not the news that Friday the 13th: The Game fans wanted to hear, but what can you do. Sometimes things don’t work out the way we want to, and we wish the best of luck to the developers with this lawsuit, and we hope they manage to work something out.
