Fortntie Made $318 Million Dollars In May
Dominance is something that the video game industry publishers and developers strive to have. For the publishers, it’s about dominance in terms of sales numbers for their consoles, and for developers, it’s dominance for their games. But not just short-term dominance, but long-term dominance as well. It’s not easy to achieve, but it can be done. One game that has been dominating since the beginning of the year is Fortnite. While original the “No.2” Battle Royale game, it’s slowly but surely become the go-to game in the genre.
Its dominance truly started late last year, as it gained more and more ground on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Then, in February, it made more profit than PUBG, as well as had more views on both Youtube and Twitch. Add that to tournaments, records, and more, and Fortnite is dominating in every sense of the word. Now, we know that in the month of May, it made $318 million dollars.
As you can see from the chart above from Superdata (who also were the ones that calculated the $318 profit for the game), Fornite was in the Top 5 grossing games for PC, and the No.1 grossing game for console. That’s an impressive amount of profit split between them. And while the game may not have made the mobile market, despite being on both iOS and Android, it is fair to say it made decent enough money from that.
Another factor that will be interesting going forward is that Fortnite is now on the Nintendo Switch, and within one day, the game had 2 million people download it. It’s been 2 weeks now since E3 2018, so it goes to reason that many more have downloaded the title. Which means that, in theory, the June numbers for the game could be much higher.
Either way though, this is huge for Epic Games.
