In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last 10 days, one of the biggest movie events of all time happened on April 27th in the release of Avengers: Infinity War. It broke all sorts of movie records, including the biggest opening of all time, fastest to $1 billion dollars, and more. And just this past weekend, it had the highest grossing 2nd weekend of all time. So, what’s next for the movie franchise? Well, apparently it’s crossing over with Fornite. Yep, didn’t see that coming did you?
And no, this isn’t a “skin crossover” or something very light like that. In this very special limited time mode that was announced on the official Fortnite Twitter, players will actually have the chance to get the actual Infinity Gauntlet in the game. And should they be so lucky and do so, they’ll become Thanos.
So, how did this come to be? Well, apparently, the directors of Infinity War, the Russo Brothers, are big Fortnite fans.
One of them talked to Entertainment Weekly and said:
“Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games. And then we started thinking, ‘How cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers-Fortnite mashup?’ So we stalked Donald [Mustard].”
And so they did, and now the crossover is coming, in fact, it’s coming tomorrow, so be prepared to wage a war of universal implications in order to get that glove. And then? Well, you can do anything you want with a snap of your fingers.
Aside from the obvious benefits that this brings Fortnite, it opens the game up to many more potential crossovers. Many could see this as a major marketing opportunity, and Epic Games will see it as a way to bring in more players, and of course, make money. We’ll have to see who steps up next.
