Fortnite Not Planning On Adding Vehicles
When Fortnite released its free Battle Royale update, many accused Epic Game of trying to copy PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. This included the creator of the game who directly said that they copied their mode point-for-point. However, to their credit, Epic Games has been working hard to differentiate their title from their competitors. This includes some very wacky weapons, creative ways to kill people, and rotating events that keep things fresh. What’s more, they’re not interested in copying what PUBG does in terms of getting around.
Fans have wondered for a while whether Fortnite Battle Royale would get vehicles to let players travel around (which is exactly what PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds does). However, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Lead systems designer Eric Williamson noted that there’s honestly no need to bring vehicles into the mix.
“We don’t have a need to add vehicles to get around the map because our travel times allow you to get mostly wherever you want to go. When we discuss vehicles, we talk about trying things with unique functionality and make it not just about going from point A to point B. “
Given all they have done so far, this is very believable. After all, the map sizes between the two games is vastly different, so who needs vehicles when you get to where you want to go very quickly on foot? Makes sense to us. Now, as he teased above, that doesn’t mean vehicles couldn’t come to the game, but if they did, they would be very unique creations.
After all, Epic Games has been taking that to heart when creating new game modes (outside of Battle Royale) for people to play. Including the 50v50 game mode which happened last year. And you can bet that they’re already working on something new to bring to players.
