Fortnite: In-game Tournaments Confirmed By Devs
We talked about in-game tournaments yesterday, and Epic Games confirmed that they are coming to Fortnite.
We talked about the data miners that found information about these in-game tournaments yesterday. Didn’t we say that it was only a matter of time before they get officially confirmed? Well, that wasn’t hard to guess, as most stuff that data miners find about Fortnite gets released or announced in the following few days.
You can hate Fortnite all you want, but there’s a reason why it stays relevant even though new battle royale giants like Black Ops 4 (with its Blackout mode) appear. It’s because Epic Games regularly introduce features like this. Features that players always wanted to get added. Adding open in-game tournaments to a game like this increases the competition factor by a lot. And where’s a lot of healthy competition, there’s a devoted fan base that’s constantly playing in order to become the best of the best.
Players on all platforms will be able to compete in these tournaments. You can play solo, with a friend, or with an entire squad. A matchmaking system is going to be used so that the best players get to play against players with their skill level. In these tournaments, Fortnite players earn points by eliminating a lot of adversaries or by getting high placements. Those that reach the target score of the tournament get a pin.
The in-game tournaments are coming with the 6.1 update.
