The absolute hardest thing to do if you’re an MMORPG developer is maintaining your player base. It’s not impossible, mind you, but it’s very hard. You have to not only craft a game that will bring players to the table, but you have to keep them there. Sometimes it’s via updates and expansions, and other times you reward players who bring in new players. But, there will always be people who leave, and you need to try and bring them back. Final Fantasy XIV is doing that with a special free-to-play event.
This event will allow players who have gotten Final Fantasy XIV in the past to jump back in and play for free for four days. You might not think that’s a lot of time, but given that this is an MMORPG, that’s time well spent, as you’ll see if the world and game has changed enough for you to want to jump back in and renew your subscription.
The best part, is that while it is a limited event, it’s not one that ends relatively soon. It’s live right now, and it’ll end on May 6th, so you have over a month to jump back in and see what you think of the new version of Final Fantasy XIV.
Depending on how long it’s been since you played it last, you’ll likely see how much the game has evolved. Square Enix has been pouring their heart into the updates and expansions and it shows. Every new update brings massive changes to the game. A recent one allows you to go to a new land, enjoy many new quests, and get lots of great gear. And that was just one update, imagine what you’ve missed with all the other ones?
