Final Fantasy XIV Could Still Come To Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch has been getting a lot of support from a lot of developers, and one of the biggest developers/publishers who are giving them lots of titles is Square Enix. It started off small, but then grew into exclusive titles like Octopath Traveler, and more are on the way because of the great sales they’re getting. And, they’re porting all sorts of their classic titles to the system. And many are hoping that Final Fantasy XIV will be one of them.
There have been rumors about this for a long time, along with a port of Final Fantasy XV, but that’s another story. As for Final Fantasy XIV, the team at Square Enix have admitted to GameSpot that they’re still in talks with Nintendo about a Switch port:
“Talks with platform-holders has been going on. The fundamental philosophy with Final Fantasy XIV is we want it on labels with cross-platform play with any devices, hardware possible. So as long as the regulations with the counterpart hardware companies … we can actually pass that, then the possibility, the chance is quite high [of Final Fantasy XIV coming to Xbox and Nintendo systems].
They went on:
So we are talking with Nintendo, Microsoft, and Google, of course; we cannot say anything at the moment because we are still in negotiations, but once we have details we can make an announcement; we can bring the news to everyone. We are currently negotiating will all those platforms.”
So there you have it, there are still talks going on not just for Switch, but other platforms as well. Which makes sense, because Square Enix wants XIV to do well across as many platforms as possible and reach even more people.
The question though, is how long until these potential ports happen. It would need to be soon for people to still see the relevance of the game itself. But we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes.
