Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel Responds To Firing From Overwatch League
The Overwatch League is Blizzard’s attempt to make a very special esports event. They’ve changed the game in many ways, including how its players are treated and paid. But, in return, Blizzard expects the players on the various teams to behave themselves, and respect the other players in the tournament. They even set up a Code of Conduct to ensure there were no misunderstandings on what can and cannot be done. Former Dallas Fuel player Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel didn’t follow these rules, and thus, he was dismissed from the team.
Lengyel was given fair warning, for he previous used a gay slur against an opponent during a losing match. He was fined, and Blizzard doubled down on their Code of Conduct policies to ensure it didn’t happen again. But, when it did, he was fined and suspended, and his team let him go. Now, Lengyel is “voicing” his side of the story. And he’s not afraid to be blunt about it.
“I just simply wish that at some point, someone simply said, ‘Look dude … I don’t know man, these [Trihard] emotes you always post in chat, it’s gotta stop man.’ Like I wish someone just said something, man,” he noted on a Twitch stream.
Yeah, not apologetic at all. And as we noted above, he was warned. He was fined and suspended for previous misconduct, and if he didn’t review the rules to ensure he wouldn’t do anything wrong, that’s honestly on him.
He also took the opportunity on Twitter to bash all the people throwing mud on him. Noting that they need to “chill” and that he “didn’t know any better”.
The question now is, will he be brought back into Overwatch League? It’s entirely possible, but we hope that any team that offers him the chance tells him point blank what he can and can’t do. Because there should be no excuses for what he does and will do.
