Far Cry 5’s Dog Companion Can’t Die
There’s a lot of design decisions that go into creating characters to work with your main one, especially when they’re running on their own AI. There needs to be rules and guidelines for what they can and can’t do. For Far Cry 5, Ubisoft needed to delve deep into the companions that your character can use for the fight against Father Joseph Seed. One of those companions is named Boomer, a dog that will accompany you and help you in numerous ways. Oh, and he can’t die.
This statement, with some proof, was made on Twitter via a member of Ubisoft’s PR team. They revealed that Boomer can’t die. He can be “knocked out”, and taken out of action, but all you need to do to “revive” him is pat his belly. It makes sense when you think about it, for a companion could die in the game, especially one like Boomer, it would kill (pardon the pun) some of the fun, and make gamers hesitant to ever use him.
Ironically, this isn’t the first AAA game to use such a thing for a dog. In fact, Fallout 4 did the very same thing. Developer Todd Howard of Bethesda made sure to mention that your dog companion could never die, because if he did, half the fun would be gone.
In Far Cry 5, Boomer is actually a very valuable ally if used properly. He can scout areas (and draw less attention because he’s a dog), attack enemies, and can even steal weapons and give them to you should you need them. There’s also other animals you can recruit as well as part of the “Fang For Hire” option.
Hopefully this news will not just warm your heart but make you consider recruiting Boomer when the game comes out on March 27th on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
