Far Cry 5 Will Only Have Cosmetic Microtransactions

If 2017 proved anything for gaming, it’s that AAA titles and their developers aren’t always forward and honest to the extent we want them to be. Mainly in that they don’t admit their problems at times, and thus we have to spell it out for them. Because of this, the “bubble” surrounding Loot Boxes and Microtransactions burst, and the floodgates opened both on a fan and government level. To that end, any major title that may have either is under scrutiny, and that includes games like Far Cry 5.

Now, on the surface, you might think that there’s nothing to add to Far Cry 5. It’s got a deep story, a massive open-world to explore, loads of weapons, characters you can ally with, it has it all. But as time has proven, developers can always find something else to add in, and that’s where the problems start. Thankfully, Ubisoft is only making the Microtransactions cosmetic in this game.

Far Cry 5

This comes straight from Ubisoft, who told Gamespot that microtransactions will be in the game at the singleplayer and multiplayer level, but only as cosmetic items. Furthermore, they said that there are some microtransactions that will allow you to speed up progress, but they assured them that gameplay itself will not be affected.

No doubt this will be a relief to many people, as the last thing they want is a game with massive microtransactions like Battlefront II, Destiny 2, and other titles we got last year. The Ubisoft PR statement also confirmed that Far Cry 5 can have its whole singleplayer storyline playable offline. But, you will need it for the multiplayer modes and the new Arcade Mode.

So, it looks like we’ve avoided a crisis on this one, now we’re just going to have to wait for the game itself to arrive to see how it plays. The game releases March 27th.
