Far Cry 5 Wants You To Go Off The Beaten Path
The Far Cry series has been lauded for its use of open-world gameplay, delivering stunning locations and places to go and explore. But, while that was fun, the main point of the game was always the storyline. And in many ways, that’s how it should be. However, with Far Cry 5, the team took a very different approach to things, for while there is a very deep storyline, there’s also a vivid and lively world that’s just begging to be explored, and that’s what the team want you to do.
For Game Director Dan Hay, he spoke to The Telegraph and noted that for Far Cry 5, they wanted to make something where you could do the main story no problem, but a good chunk of the fun is “chasing the wind” and seeing where it takes you. For the stories of the game are everywhere.
“They’re varied, and there are new micro-stories to discover, and you can do it with guns for hire, or fangs for hire, or a co-op buddy.”
Indeed, the game does seem to have many different things for you to do. Being that you’re rooted in a whole county in the state of Montana, that means there’s a lot of ground to literally cover. What’s more, the game is going to have you affected the world based on what you do, even if other parts of the world don’t realize it just yet.
Hay also noted that for him, one of the most important things during the design process was to not think “this is what Far Cry is so this is the box you can build it in.” For in his mind, that mindset is a disservice to both the players and the game itself. He wanted to go far outside the box, and based on what we’ve seen, he’s succeeded.
