Far Cry 5 Trying To Be Accurate With The Characters And Cult
Far Cry 5 is trying to do something very special. Gone are the grand action setpieces that filled up the original games, and in comes a very rural setting set within the state of Montana. Also, instead of just a simple villain for you to stop, you’re going to be taking on (or becoming a part of) a cult that owns a lot of land in Hope County. You’re still going to be exploring a vast area, one that has been meticulously detailed, but the people you meet won’t be like the ones from previous games.
Creative director Dan Hay talked with Gamespot about Far Cry 5, and noted that one of the biggest changes in the game would be how information is given to characters. You see, in previous games, NPCs seemed to know everything going on in the world. Here, that’s not going to happen.
“I like the idea of meeting characters in the world that don’t really have a clue what’s going on, and they’re only aware of what’s going on in terms of what they can see in front of them.”
He believes this approach will allow the player to have more tension as they try and figure things out, as well as give new opportunities for exploration.
The other thing that they’re trying to do right is how the cult interacts with each other. They’re bound by their communications setups, so it’s possible to do damage to them without them knowing about it, it’s something Ubisoft really looked into.
Furthermore, the way the cult was made didn’t happen generations ago, it’s fairly recently. Led by The Father, he had an idea when he was young, and he worked hard to bring it to life. And now that vision is putting a lot of people at risk.
It’s going to be an adventure when Far Cry 5 arrives next year.
