Far Cry 5 Has Done Very Well In The UK
You never know how a video game is going to do in a certain region. Yes, you can wisely guess that a title will resonate with a certain group of people or even a nation at times (like with sports games), but you never really know who’s going to buy a video game and who isn’t. In fact, part of the fun is finding out. For Ubisoft, they’ve found out that their recent title Far Cry 5 is doing so well in the UK that it’s the fastest-selling title in the franchise there.
This comes from GameIndustry.biz, who notes that the game topped the UK charts, as well as a few other tidbits that are intriguing to note. For example, it beat the record for sales in “Week 13” of the year that was previously held by none other than Bioshock Infinite. What’s more, the PS4 sales of Far Cry 5 accounted for 60% of the sales.
Finally, the chart and numbers only account for physical game sales, not digital sales. So, it’s reasonable to say that the numbers are a little bit higher.
So, why did this title do so much better than the other entries in the Far Cry series? Well, there are many possibilities. First, there weren’t many new releases in that region, and the last new one, Sea of Thieves, dropped a lot in sales. Second, the hype behind the game was very real, and the delays that occurred during development made it so that players were really eager to try Far Cry 5 out. Finally, Ubisoft did a really good job marketing the game. They promoted it not just in interviews, but with all kinds of promotional videos throughout the internet.
Regardless of the reason, if the US and Japan (whose sales numbers aren’t known yet) match the UK in their eagerness to buy the game, this could be another major hit for the year of 2018.
