Far Cry 5 Had Gameplay Features Inspired By Far Cry Primal

When you have a longstanding franchise, especially one that has sold millions and is loved by fans and critics alike, you tend to try and evolve it in unique ways, while also honoring the past. For Far Cry 5, the team at Ubisoft has worked hard to ensure that the game is unique compared to all the others. Especially when it came to the setting of Montana, for the team wanted to go away from the islands, savannahs, and mountains the previous games were known for and do a more rural setting, thus came Hope county.

What they also wanted to do was really nail a community of sorts. This county is full of people, and some of those people just happened to be in a cult trying to get power, so that too was unique. But, when the team started working on gameplay mechanics to spice things up, they found inspiration in another of their titles via Far Cry Primal.

For Far Cry 5 creative director Dan Hay told Gamespot:

“What’s really interesting is when we were making Far Cry Primal, we did those Beast Master quests, and we’re like, “Whoa. Okay. Hold on. There’s something really cool here.” So, that says “You know what? For Far Cry 5, let’s explore the relationship with coop AI.””

From there, the team realized it would be cool to have guns-for-hire, who wouldn’t just help you in missions, but have fully fleshed out personalities that make them feel unique. Hay likens what’s going on here as the “ripple effect”, they throw in something and they see how it affects the game as a whole, and it appears to be working.

This may just be the deepest Far Cry game ever made, as the details to the world, the characters, the gameplay mechanics, all are being tuned and designed with great care.

The game will release on February 27th.
