Fallout: New Vegas Mod Fears Shutdown Due To Board Game
The modding community is easily one of the coolest things in gaming. The passion and dedication from fans to not just want to make mods, but go above and beyond the call in order to deliver very unique experiences is something that should be both respected, and treasured. The Fallout community is full of people like this, and one of them has been working for 7 years on a Fallout: New Vegas mod/prequel called Fallout: New California. But now something is causing them to panic and release the game earlier than they thought they would need to.
Basically, Bethesda (who officially owns the Fallout license) is making a board game called Fallout: New California. Sound familiar? And so the team is fearing that because they have the same name as a licensed title, it could lead to a cease-and-desist order. In a statement, they revealed:
“They have every legal right to C&D us without hesitation. It would be effortless on their part to wipe us out with a single email, erasing 7 years of work.”
They’re also not happy that they’ve had the name on lock for years now, and have the proof of it:
“We have a Wikipedia page, we have the first 19 pages on Google search results, the top results are about us, there are news interviews and lets plays and single videos WITH MORE VIEWS THAN THEIR ENTIRE COMPANY YOUTUBE CHANNEL — and they still named their board game Fallout: New California.
So they either never googled the words New California or they knew and just didn’t care, because they have the bought and paid for license and we don’t. I am not in the mood to find out.”
Their plans are simple, they’re going to speed up their development process and ensure that no only does the game come out, but all the post-launch content comes out as well before the board game releases. You can check out their website here.
