Fallout 76 PC Patch Doesn’t Do What It Promised
Since its launch in November, Fallout 76 has been met with nothing but problems. Lots and lots of problems. Some of them were external, like a bag from the Power Armor Edition not being exactly what was promised. Many more though have been internal via the game not performing well, or servers crashing and what not. Bethesda has been doing their best to fix things via patches, but, it’s not going well still. And now, PC gamers are up in arms because a recent patch promised ultrawide monitor support…but it doesn’t exactly do that.
For those who don’t know, ultrawide monitor support is a resolution of 21:9. Upon first look, the Fallout 76 patch appeared to do just that. But, what it actually did, was take the 16:9 resolution, and made it stretch to 21:9. Due to this, not everything is proportioned properly, including the UI. On Reddit, a lot of players called out Bethesda for this:
Bethesda, this is getting a bit embarrassing. We waited patiently for the ultrawide fix, and when you said you were working on it and it “looked great in our labs”, I expected a perfect ultrawide fix. But what you’ve delivered after a month from the games release is basically an .ini edit!!
They also noted this:
A modder without access to the source code did what Bethesda didn’t in a whole month! Even more amazing when you think this patch has probably been out a while already. Just amazing Bethesda, just amazing.
While some of the players on Reddit played it cool, and even supported Bethesda at times, it’s still indicative to what’s going on with Fallout 76. There’s a lot of bugs and issues, much more than is expected in a Fallout title. Add that to the out-of-game issues and you know Bethesda is under a lot of stress right now.
