Evolve Servers Shutting Down In September

It’s always sad to see a game die, especially if you see the developers giving it their all to try to keep it alive. Today is a sad day indeed, as Evolve, a 4v1 shooter which was already on its dying breath, is going to be put down for good. 2K announced that the dedicated servers are getting shut down in September, and even though you will still be able to play the game through peer-to-peer multiplayer, the Ranked (Hunt) mode is getting removed, as well as other various features, so after September, we can officially say that Evolve is dead.

Evolve

For those of you that aren’t familiar with the game, it is a 4v1 PvP shooter where one player gets to pick one of many monsters to play as, while four other players get to pick between different kinds of hunters which all have specific roles. Then it’s a battle to see who is the hunter and who is the hunted. It is a fun twist on the usual PvP shooter formula, and it was quite fun to play as a rampaging monster that can either tear the place down or silently stalk its prey in the shadows. On the official 2K post it says:

Evolve’s dedicated servers will be shutting down on September 3, 2018. This means several game features will no longer be available, such as Hunt (Ranked), leaderboards, and the in-game store. Stage 2 will no longer be available on PC, and players will have plenty of opportunity to spend their in-game and virtual currency before the store is removed. Peer-to-peer multiplayer will still be available in Legacy Evolve on PC and console, and we’d like to stress that all players will retain all purchased DLC content, such as Hunters, Monsters, and skins.

If you really like the game, you will still be able to play it and all, but it really is a shame to see Evolve go. It was a distinct PvP multiplayer shooter, and it was a rare jewel when it first came out, but unfortunately, things don’t always work out as we hope.
