Epic Games Apologizes For New Server Issues In Fortnite

In game development, there’s always a risk that when you fix something, you’ll make something worse. This also happens after the game is released and you decide to make a patch or update. Yesterday, Epic Games released Patch v3.5 for Fortnite, with the intention of adding some fun new things and fixing and improving others. However, once they did, the servers began to spiral out of control until no one could play on the game anymore. And this has continued into today.

Thankfully, Epic Games is aware of the issues in Fortnite, and they’re working on fixing them, here is a statement they made on Reddit:

We’re sorry for the ongoing extended instability. We had a critical failure with one of our account service databases. As a result, our login and matchmaking systems are unstable. Our team has been working through the night on fixes in order to bring the game fully back up. Right now we don’t know how long it will take, but we will update you hourly.

Also according to them, the update they made screwed up the login and “game services” parts of the code, and that’s what they’re aiming to fix. Once it goes up, there’s no doubt going to be an announcement letting players know they can enter the game once again.

Sadly, this is not the first, or even second, time that Fortnite has gone down with server issues. In fact, Epic Games has frequently had to apologize for server issues that have plagued the game. It’s unclear why this keeps popping up, but it should be noted that every time it goes down, they do fix things and make it playable again.

Hopefully with this most recent setback, Epic Game will truly buckle down and try to find the culprit so that this doesn’t happen again.
