EA Shuts Down Battlefield 1’s Incursion Servers
Progress takes many forms in video games, and sometimes, to make something better, you have to shut something down to do so. For Battlefield 1, EA has been working with fans to create a special game mode called Incursions. This is a special 5v5 mode which was made to have esports in mind. It started out as just an Alpha but then moved to the PC with more hands-on feedback from the community. Well, according to EA in a post on their site, they’ve gotten enough feedback to move forward with it, so they’re shutting the servers down.
“We’ve been on an amazing ride with you as we launched the Battlefield 1 Incursions Community Environment. We listened to your feedback and suggestions, hopped on to play during weekends, and continued to update the experience as we built this together.”
As of now, the servers are shut down. You can still go to the Incursions screen, but you won’t be able to play with anyone.
So, what’s next for the mode? Well, the team teases “the next natural phase in development”, and promises that they will be sharing news about these developments soon, so you can look forward to that.
“As we mentioned, we’re working on new developments and can’t wait to share them with you. In the meantime, keep an eye out for some Q&A sessions with notable voices from our competitive development team.”
So, it seems as though things are going to continue moving forward with Battlefield 1. This is interesting as EA has already revealed that the next Battlefield game will be revealed just before E3 2018 at their EA Play event. That’s not to say the two games can’t live side by side, its just a matter of focus in terms of release dates.
If we hear more on Incursions or the next Battlefield game, we’ll let you know.
