EA Reveals Star Wars Battlefront II’s New Progression System
Star Wars Battlefront II started off as one of the most hyped games of 2017. It was meant to do everything the original did, but bigger, and better, and with more scale and scope. Spanning all three generations of Star Wars, bringing in more characters, more vehicles, more worlds, it had it all going for it. Until players actually got their hands on it, then things started falling apart. EA and DICE made several decisions that drastically changed how players viewed the game. First was the microtransactions systems, and then, there was the progression system.
The reason the progression system stuck out in everyone’s minds was because it was insanely hard. Not in the “challenge is a good thing!” kind of way, but in a “we’re going to be playing this forever to try and earn everything” kind of way. Because of that, players felt that EA was forcing them to dive into the microtransactions part of the game to buy everything, and thus make EA more money. Because of all of this backlash, EA was forced to shut down both systems and rethink how to do it.
Now, months after Battlefront II’s release. EA has finally revealed how everything will change. On March 21st, the new progression system will arrive. One that will make sure “pay-to-win” is never uttered. Because now, growing your characters and ships in the game is linear. You’ll earn experience through battles and level them up, every new level gets you Skill Points, which you can spend to get Star Cards to grow your characters and ships even more.
Unlike before, Star Cards will NOT be available via Loot Crates, thus you can’t buy your way to a victory. As for Loot Crates themselves, you’ll have to earn them, and can’t buy them. What’s more, the items in the Loot Crates are just credits and emotes. So nothing that seriously affects gameplay.
This is a big change for Battlefront II, but one we think gamers will support happily.
