If like many others you go out and buy the annual release of the EA sports games such as Madden and FIFA, then you might be in for quite a change going forward, and it might well be a way to save you some money in the long run.
EA chief Andrew Wilson stated in a recent interview that they could be switching to a 365-day live service. This comes thanks to the shift in the internet content, so it will be giving players the chance to pay a regular free or download free content instead of having to pay for the new game every year.
When this might happen, or how much it would cost has yet to be revealed. However, there are a number of reasons in which this could be beneficial for all parties. A number of companies will vouch that a regular updated game for a monthly fee can be managed more easily than having to pay full price for a game on a yearly basis. It also benefits developers as well, plus it saves money for the publishers on production costs, since they won’t have to produce the discs and such.
Either way, it will be interesting to see what direction EA will take regarding annual sports releases in the future.
