EA Expands EA Motive To Work On New Star Wars Title And More
EA is a very divisive video game developer. On one hand, they make some really good games, and on the other hand, they have been known to put the screws to players in ways that no one likes. And yet, they make so much money that it doesn’t seem to bother them unless something literally blows up in their face. As such, they’re opening up a new game studio under their banner. It’s going to be an extension of EA Motive, and will be focusing on a lot of titles, including Star Wars.
The reveal was done by Mitch Dyer, who is a writer for EA Motive and has done a lot of games. He posted:
This is really cool. Motive has officially expanded to two offices! Montreal and Vancouver are hiring for Star Wars, Plants vs. Zombies, and new IP.
The studio is still getting together and it’s already got two big IPs under its banner, that’s impressive, and it shows how much EA has faith in this potential team.
Naturally, gamers are going to be wary of a new Star Wars title under EA. We’re still feeling the fallout of what happened to Battlefront II, and the fact that EA has canceled more titles in the franchise than they’ve made. Including the much desired 1313 game and the one that was made by Visceral before it was shut down.
Since EA is the exclusive owner to the Star Wars gaming brand, we have no choice but to follow their lead, but it does raise a lot of questions about what they’ll let the new studio do. A lot of talented people have wanted to make games in the franchise, but EA has always interfered.
It’s also curious the news about the new IP. What could EA be up to with their new studio? Only time will tell.
