Loot Boxes and Microtransactions are a very hot topic issue in the gaming world right now. On one hand, when done right, the boxes and transactions can add an extra layer to gameplay, or to customization of various aspects. However, when done wrong, aka greed, it can be seen as a shameless tactic to siphon real-money from players in order to boost profit margins. Now, every game that has the words “Loot Box” or Microtransaction is instantly under scrutiny. Thankfully, Dragon Ball FighterZ won’t be one of them.
Not that the game won’t have Loot Boxes, it will, reports from sites like Resetera proof that they will. However, these boxes are only purchasable via in-game currency, and not for real money. Early access goers (via the beta and early review copies) have confirmed that Capsules are the Loot Box in Dragon Ball FighterZ. Like other games, the main item in these are customizable items for your in-game avatar, including special outfits.
This will no doubt be a major relief to players, as FighterZ is easily one of the most hyped games of the year, and having it weighed down by Loot Boxes or Microtransactions would’ve been a major buzzkill for some, if not all. Especially in light of what happened to Star Wars Battlefront II, Need For Speed Payback, or even PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Overwatch to a lesser extent.
The epidemic with Loot Boxes has gotten so bad in terms of how people view them that actual government officials have been researching whether these paid in-game items are actually gambling.
Given all we’ve seen from Dragon Ball FighterZ, it honestly doesn’t need Loot Boxes, the gameplay and visuals stand on its own, and taking anything from them would have been a bad move.
So, enjoy the full un-Loot Boxed restrained game when it arrives on January 26th.
