Doom Response On Switch Pleases Bethesda
As video games have proven over the last few generations, it’s important to not just have good 1st party support. But also, to have strong 3rd party support as well. For its these games that can help bring in players to your platform that are beyond the “usual suspects”. For Nintendo, they have struggled in the last three console generations (Gamecube, Wii, Wii U) to get 3rd party support. But, with the Nintendo Switch, things are turning around. Including getting Bethesda to bring Doom, Skyrim, and Wolfenstein to the system.
This was a major deal when it was just Skyrim being revealed during the “commercial” for the system. However, once Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus were revealed, fans truly felt that Bethesda was backing the Switch. And, according to Pete Hines of Bethesda, the response to their games have made them very happy.
“So far, we’re most pleased about how some people seemed stunned and amazed that Doom works and looks amazing on your Switch.” he told Rolling Stone
Indeed, things have looked well for the game on Switch. Now, many have noted that graphically it doesn’t match up to the Xbox One or PS4, but that was never the intention. The goal was to make Doom portable, while also keeping it playable in the style that everyone was expecting. To that end, they succeeded.
Similar praise was given to Skyrim when it released two weeks later. And the development team that ported Doom to the Nintendo Switch is also handling the port for Wolfenstein II, which has already eased the minds of many.
Though sales numbers for the first two titles haven’t been revealed, Bethesda has noted their love of Nintendo, which could lead to many new avenues and games in the future should they deem it worthy and profitable.
