Doom Eternal For Switch Being Made By Panic Button
Doom Eternal was one of the big reveals for Bethesda at this years’ E3. And last week, a major gameplay trailer showed off some of the insane features that the game was going to offer, including being able to invade other players games in order to screw with them. But arguably the biggest reveal from that trailer was that the game was announced for Switch (which it hadn’t been at E3 2018). This led to a lot of questions, including, “is Bethesda themselves making it?”
Well, in an interview with Marty Stratton of ID Software, Eurogamer found out that they won’t be making the Switch version, but, they will be letting someone very familiar with the Switch do it:
We’re actually working with Panic Button again, but before, we made the game and then we brought it to Switch, and now we are making the game with Switch in mind. It’s nice to know the platforms we want to hit up front.
For those who don’t know, Panic Button is a studio that ported multiple games to the Nintendo Switch both last year and this year. They did Doom, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and more, and now, they’re doing Doom Eternal. The studio has openly supported the Nintendo Switch multiple times, and even have said they’d love to port more games to the system, and now they’re doing it.
However, with Panic Button’s involvement, that raises another question, “Will the Switch version be a same-day release?”
“That’s the plan right now; we’ll see. We’re still a way away from launching but we have made the decision to make Switch a, what we call internally, ‘first class citizen’.”
So there you go Switch gamers, no current plans for a delayed release, which will no doubt make the game even more valuable on Switch. No release date is set for Doom Eternal right now.
