Did A Call Of Duty Job Listing Just Reveal The PS5?
For a while now, people have been wondering when the next generation of consoles will be announced. On one hand, we have the Nintendo Switch, which is next gen in many ways, and it’s dominating the market in just as many ways. Which leaves us with Sony and Microsoft. Microsoft teased a new console in the works at E3 2018, but as for Sony, given that the PS4 is still doing very well, and is, in fact, the best-selling console of 2018 so far, they have made no indication whether the PS5 is coming soon or not.
But, as with any good hopeful story, leaks help us fill in the details on what may be coming. In this case, the leaker is Infinity Ward, who put up a job listing for one of the next Call of Duty titles (more than likely the next “Main” game in the series) and noted this in the description:
Come work with the game industry’s brightest on a new, exciting, unannounced title for multiple next gen platforms.
Notice they said “multiple next-gen platforms”, which seems to indicate not just the PS5, but also whatever Microsoft is working on. And though unlikely, it may include the Switch, but again, it’s unlikely.
Still, this potential confirmation is something to look forward to. However, one should not try and extrapolate when the PS5 will be announced or when it will release. For while it’s true that Infinity Ward does make Call of Duty games semi-annually, that doesn’t mean that this particular title will arrive next year. It could, but it’s not a guarantee.
Furthermore, in a recent interview, one of the heads of Sony seemed to indicate that their newest console wouldn’t be discussed for some time. Does that mean until next year? 2020? Longer? Only they know, which means we have to wait.
