The CEO of Square Enix claims that the Deus Ex series is not stopping, but currently, there aren’t enough resources to continue.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was not exactly a blockbuster, yet the Japanese publisher says the IP is still important to them, but they have no resources and because of this there will be no continuation in the near future. Though Deus Ex: Mankind Divided managed to impress the critics, it did not manage to, however, bring sufficient sales, which seems to have forced Square Enix to pause the series.
It was rumored earlier that this would not only be a temporary retirement. Luckily, in May, Jim Sterling revealed that this was not the case, but the development team was working on other projects. Now, the CEO himself made sure that fans of the series will not have to give up on Deus Ex for good, but will have to wait for a while to get their hands on a new title.
Let’s hope that Square Enix will not end up completely scrapping Deus Ex and that they will manage to come up with a better sequel than the previous one.
