Dark Souls: Remastered Won’t Use Assets From Dark Souls III
A few days ago, the gaming world was shocked, and then got over it and rejoiced, when they heard that Bandai Namco was going to release Dark Souls: Remastered on several different platforms. This includes the PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch (a first for the series). Yet, as with all cases in the “remastering” process, the question of how much the game will improve was brought up, and reports began to swirl around about what would, and wouldn’t, happen to it. This included a report stating that Dark Souls III assets would be used.
This report came from Twitter user VaatiVaya, who later corrected the statement, noting:
“So to correct a few things that I posted about yesterday – “Dark Souls Remastered will not include new assets based on the Dark Souls 3 engine or any combat differences.”
This no doubt will bring some joy to players who want to maintain the “purity” of the original game as much as possible.
This actually coincides with what Sony revealed about the game on the PlayStation Blog. As they noted that the game would feature updated graphics as well as a 60 FPS rate, however, it would not feature HDR lighting. They even had to correct that page when they accidentally said it would have HDR lighting.
Regardless of the graphics and the assets, many are hoping that some of the more technical aspects of the original game are improved upon in Dark Souls: Remastered. The game at times had some serious lagging issues, and the camera at times made it very hard to fight opponents. Which, if you’ve played Dark Souls, is not a good thing, as the opponents and bosses are extremely difficult.
Still for those who want to bask in the original experience, or play the first game for the first time, Dark Souls: Remastered will arrive on consoles and PC on May 25th.
