CD Projekt confirmed that their upcoming grand RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, won’t be moddable right after it launches.
This shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. Even The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt didn’t have mod support when it launched. It only came a few months later after the official release. CD Projekt probably plans to do the same thing with Cyberpunk 2077. Once the game is finished and released, they can worry about implementing modding tools and releasing them to the community.
Since at this time, the game doesn’t even have a release date, we shouldn’t even be talking about modding tools. There’s no need to be hasty, these devs always deliver enthralling gaming experiences, and they love their fans. Of course, they’re going to add mod support for an RPG as hyped up like this one. Modding is also one of the greatest features of PC gaming since it lets the community greatly prolong the longevity of a title.
Marcin Momot from CD PROJEKT RED actually responded to the players on this thread and stated:
I wanted to elaborate on this topic and on that answer in particular. We have no plans to share at the moment. Obviously, we would love to support the modding community in the future, but for the time being we want to focus on releasing the game first. Hopefully, this clears things up a bit.
As expected, they don’t want to talk about it until Cyberpunk 2077 releases properly. Let’s take things slow and pray to just get a vague release date for the game at E3. More gameplay is also quite welcome, if our CD Projekt overlords decide to share some more with us. That would be splendid.
