Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Be A Cliche Of A Story
From the moment we heard about Cyberpunk 2077, people were enthralled with the super futuristic look that the game had, and they wanted more of it. Fast forward a few years and CD Projekt Red finally gave us a full-on trailer that showed the style of the game as well as the setting of it via Night City. But CD Projekt Red has made it very clear that things aren’t just the surface level when it comes to plot and story, they have much bigger plans.
Producer Richard Borzymowski talked with Engadget about the game, and noted this about the story:
“We want to always keep it personal. We don’t want to tell a story about rescuing the world. We don’t want to basically destroy the system. … It’s not just another part in this cyberpunk-industry cliche machine.”
He also noted that the “punk” in Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t surface level stuff either:
“The punk part in cyberpunk stands not only for rock and roll and sex and drugs and whatever,” Borzymowski said. “It also stands as a fight against the system.”
Ironically, despite the overall general consensus that the trailer shown at E3 was really good, there were some people who didn’t like that it all took place in the daytime. As if it “should’ve been” at night to help “sell the feel”. But Borzymowski and the rest of the team had different ideas:
We knew how to create beautiful scenery in the night in Night City, like awesome Blade Runner terrain aspects,” Borzymowski said. “But creating Cyberpunk as an open-world game with a day and night cycle, we knew we would have to build Night City in a fashion which will look cool in the daylight as well. This was a bigger challenge to us than night, and we just opted to go with that and make a trailer in daylight, which pushed us farther.”
Cyberpunk 2077 is apparently fully playable from start to finish. So now the team is working on bug fixes, asset adding, and more.
