It’s very fair to say that video games strive to be like one another in many aspects. Almost all games strive to be best-sellers, and many games try to “cash in” on the success that other games have had. For others though, they simply want to try and be as “grand” as other titles, as they set such a high bar that it’d be wrong to not make the attempt. For the team at CD Projekt Red, they always strive for greatness, but with their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, they’re striving for even more.
For during a Q&A with an investor group, they were asked if they had seen the success of Red Dead Redemption 2, and whether Cyberpunk 2077 will be able to match what they did in terms of quality. The CEO of CD Project Red replied thusly:
A fairly provocative question, isn’t it? Without a doubt, quality is of paramount importance. We strive to publish games which are as refined as Red Dead Redemption 2, and recent Rockstar releases in general. That game is excellent, by the way, we are rooting for it. Rave reviews, excellent sales. What does that teach us? Well, it teaches us that we need to publish extraordinary games, and that’s exactly what we are planning. Gamers, it seems, tend to focus more and more on hit releases. There’s only so much time one can devote to video games, and while there gaming community is growing, time cannot be stretched.
He noted that they were indeed striving to be one of the best around with their games, and their Witcher series proved that they could do great quality and get a lot of accolades, so that’s what they’re aiming for with Cyberpunk.
Ironically, when asked about when they would show more about the game, they refused to comment.
