Cyberpunk 2077 is a very anticipated title, not the least of which is because the game is being made by CD Projekt Red, who made the Witcher franchise. So while it took years to get a first look, when it arrived, everyone was pumped. But, there was a catch to this. For while the world and characters seemed ripe for exploring, an oddity was found when CD noted that there would be character creation on a great detail, but the game itself would have a first-person view.
To many, this seemed like an oxymoronic game decision. After all, what’s the point of customizing the character if you can’t see it for a majority of the game?
Well, in an interview the team noted that this wasn’t just about making your own character, it was about going through the world itself, and seeing it through their eyes. So while you won’t see the character all the time, you know you’re see everything from their perspective.
“Well, it’s an RPG,” said Quest Designer Patrick Mills to the Official Xbox Magazine. “It’s an RPG before it’s a shooter. And it’s really about making a character and inhabiting that character and living in this world and making choices from not just the point of view of that character but also of yourself. With The Witcher, you had Geralt, and Geralt had a history. He had decades of books, games, comics, and even television series, with a new one on the way, and it was about guiding him through his story. But with this, we want it to be your story. So really, putting you in first person is the only way to do that.”
While this may be a concern right now, it’s very likely that when Cyberpunk 2077 comes out in full it won’t be as much of an issue.
