It was certainly a busy evening for Cuphead and his pal Mugman. The recently released indie sensation that hit Xbox One and Windows 10 back in September was nominated for five awards at the Game Awards yesterday evening, managing to pick up three on the night.
The indie platformer from Studio MDHR won awards for Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game and Best Art Direction, whilst also being nominated for Best Action Game and Best Score/Music, though they lost out to Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Nier: Automata respectively on those awards.
Nevertheless, this is a monumental achievement for Cuphead. From a title that was subject to a number of delays and in danger of killing of its own hype in that process, it released to critical acclaim, boasting impressive sales figures and praised by critics and fans for a number of reasons, including its 1930s style art approach, soundtrack and perhaps what it has become most well known for, its crippling difficulty.
Cuphead is now available on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. So if you like a challenge, and have an appreciation for a retro art direction, then you will most definitely want to check out the platformer.
