It’s important to appreciate video games when they’re good, as that proves that the team behind the games did a good job with the time and content that they had. But, it’s also important to appreciate the unique games, the ones that dared to be different, because when those games succeed, everyone succeeds. Why? Because they’ll look at those games and go, “Could we do something like that?” and new games are born. For the game called Cuphead, not only was it unique, not only was it good, it has sold incredibly well.
The game was released on the PC and Xbox One (and the family of Xbox One systems), and now, we can confirm that the title has sold a total of 2 million units between the two systems. Or, as the team noted on Twitter, it hit double platinum.

They’re right to be overjoyed, for while Cuphead looked unique, and had a difficulty that many fans do enjoy, it doesn’t mean it was going to sell at all. But it did. Whether through critical acclaim or word-of-mouth, the game did incredibly well, and even the team at Studio MDHR couldn’t believe just how well their game did.
Even in our wildest dreams, we never thought our crazy little characters would be embraced by this many fans from around the world and we are continuously humbled by your support.
Studio MDHR put a lot on the line when it came to making Cuphead, they even fully admitted that their houses were on the line, that’s how sure they were that this game would work if they could finish it. Fortunately, it was a good bet, and this number is surely going to go up as time goes on.
