Cuphead Has Sold 3 Million Copies
In the gaming world, there are games that you hope succeed, because you like them or you want them to get another title. There are games that you know will succeed, because they’re big names, big brands, consistently sell, etc. And then, there are games that deserve to succeed. Usually because there’s a story or purpose behind the game that makes it stand out from the rest and you look at it and go, “oh yeah, that one deserves to succeed because it did that”. This is the thought many had with Cuphead.
Cuphead was a unique game from the moment people saw it. It had the visuals of an old-school Disney cartoon, and yet its gameplay and story were dark and difficult. People instantly fell in love with it, but that doesn’t always mean sales. However, the game sold, and then continued to sell. And now, almost a year after its initially release, Cuphead has sold 3 million copies.
The team at Studio MDHR posted this on their site to confirm the news:
Hello friends! We’re barely past the halfway mark of 2018, and are humbled to announce that Cuphead has already reached over 3 million copies sold! It’s hard for us to express just how appreciative we are to everyone who has played and enjoyed our niche little run & gun game with the wacky rubber-hose characters.
They’re also offering a discount on the game on the Xbox Marketplace and Steam, so if you don’t have the game, check it out.
The look and style wasn’t the only thing that made this game “deserve” its sales. It’s also that the team literally put everything on the line in order to make it, including their houses. So seeing them get these sales, get the positive reactions to Cuphead is truly something inspiring, and hopefully it’s not the last game this team makes.
