The recent decision to take out Dust II from CS: GO may well have been a productive one, which is an opinion shared by many among competitive players of the popular shooter.
This was because there were many players who felt that the Dust II map had already had its time at the top, and needed some much required improvements to make it exciting to play on again, as well as make it more in line with other relevant maps.
The revamped version was launched on October 11th via the Beta client, which gave Valve the opportunity to test it for a week and implement any fixes that needed doing. The map then went live on October 18th in the main game.
The most recent update also included a number of other alterations, which made changes to accommodate the competitive landscape, plus unique jump sounds on surfaces and more in a category of audio changes. You can find the full list of patch notes here.
It’s worth noting that the return of Dust II into the active map pool as far as competitive play is concerned hasn’t yet been announced, nor has it been revealed which map it will be replacing. There are rumblings that both Nuke and Cobblestone are contenders for this, but nothing has been confirmed.
