For video game consoles, it’s not enough to have games on the system that people can play. Yes, that’s what you definitely want to have, but to be successful, you need exclusive games, ones that no one can get anywhere else (by legal means). 1st party exclusives are incredibly important, which is why many feel that the Xbox One is in serious trouble. Because between last year and this year (so far), there haven’t been many exclusives released or announced. And one that seems to keep keep getting delayed is Crackdown 3.
Crackdown was a franchise that honestly shouldn’t have worked, yet, because it was brilliantly packaged with Halo 3 (as a demo) the series was able to get a big visual boost, and both games have sold very well. And many are expecting Crackdown 3 to do well too. Including analyst Michael Patcher, who noted to GamingBolt:
“That is really a good franchise. But again, it’s not for everyone- super hard. But it’s a great game experience, and I think it will do well. I think it and [State of Decay] are the things I am looking forward to most on Xbox… I’m a fan of Halo and Gears, but Gears 5 and Halo 6? Okay… I’d much rather play Crackdown 3 and State of Decay 2.”
He might be over-selling this here, but the intent is clear, he feels that Crackdown 3 could be a huge seller of both software and hardware, which is why it’s so frustrating that it got delayed from last year to this year, and we still don’t have an exact date of its arrival. This game has been teased and promised since 2014, and it needs to come out soon.
But even if it does do well in sales for itself and for Xbox One, it can’t carry the console on its own, more 1st party exclusives need to come out.
