Ever since the launch of Street Fighter V, Capcom has been working to break some of the negative things that were said about the game. Mainly, that the game was very “bare bones”, to the point where it was questionable why it released in the state it was done in. Eventually, Capcom was forced to go on its word to not make a “Super” version of the game and released Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, which brought in more characters, more modes, and new content.
But, even with Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s release, Capcom is still releasing new characters via the Season Pass, and the newest one has just been announced. It will be Cody from Final Fight, who has been in Street Fighter before. This time though, Cody is the mayor of Metro City, which was the job of Hagger from Final Fight. But that’s not the only twist in this tale.
You see, Capcom revealed his inclusion via a very cool live-action trailer, and Cody in the trailer is played by wrestling legend Kenny Omega, who was thrilled to get this opportunity as he revealed on his own Twitter:
A little something I worked on in secrecy. A proud moment to assume the role of my favorite SF fighter! Thanks to @CapcomFighters and all of the kind staff I met on set. You were all great. (Well, I never met the guy on the phone but I’m sure you’re swell) https://t.co/InqpbHWOJR
if you check out his profile, you’ll see he really is a Cody main, so it’s appropriate that he gets to play the live-action version of Cody in the trailer.
As for battle style, Cody relies on not just his fists, but a knife and the pipe that Haggar is known for using. He can even wear Haggar’s outfit if you want him to.
Cody will arrive on June 26th.
