Esports organisation Cloud9 has entered the competitive side of the indie smash hit Rocket League, and have done so by signing The Muffin Men, who are the reigning DreamHack Atlanta champions.
The three players look to help Cloud9 in its mission to further its presence amongst the eSports scene, which they hope to spread across a number of other games. Rocket League in particular has been a game that has seen plentiful growth following its success on Steam, featuring in a number of leagues and tournaments from all around the world.
Dana Flander, the general manager of Cloud9, stated: “Over the last two years Rocket League has stormed onto the scene as a fun, accessible esport for everyone. We began talks with The Muffin Men before this last DreamHack and their stellar performance solidified our interest. Happy to have them on board as yet another top team on Cloud9.”
Rocket League, the soccer-car hybrid game from Psyonix that has skyrocketed to popularity since its initial release, is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A release has also been reported for the Nintendo Switch, with more details in the game coming to the new Nintendo console yet to be revealed.
