Civilization VI Reveals New Dutch Nation
The Civilization series has been one of the greatest strategy game franchises out there for some time. Its use of history, mixed with time, has made an impression on many, and this goes double for Civilization VI, which released last year to great praise and accomplishment. Now, a year and a half after that will come the very first expansion for the game, titled Rise And Fall, which will introduce new ages, new people to help you run your city, and of course, new civilizations for you to command.
One of nine nations that you can control are the Netherlands, who will be run by Queen Wilhelmina, who was the longest-reigning monarch in Dutch history, so it’s no wonder she’s their leader here. As for what you can expect from them, they have some very unique bonuses for you to acquire. If you build a harbor, for example, you’ll automatically get the adjacent squares for you. Also, if you build things like theaters and industrial buildings near rivers, you’ll get bonuses.
You’ll also get a special improvement that’ll allow you to get special food and housing on the water that has “sufficient coastline”, and even be able to grow them as your technologies advance. The Dutch special unit is a very powerful warship, one that has enhanced speed and range, and can even get a special attack bonus via attacking defensible locations.
As for Queen Wilhelmina, Civilization VI gives her abilities tied to the roads and trade routes that go in and out of her realm. Ones that connect her cities will strengthen the capital, while ones that go to other countries will boost her culture.
So, as you can see, the Dutch make the game even more expandable, as they’re able to use the water around them to great effect, and it’ll be interesting to see what you do with them when the Rise and Fall expansion arrives February 8th.
