Citadel: Forged With Fire Upgrades Its Game Engine
What does it mean when a game upgrades its game engine? A lot of us aren’t too familiar with programming, so naturally, this is something unknown to us. The developers of Citadel: Forged With Fire released their latest patch notes and they now upgraded their game from Unreal Engine 4.16 to Unreal Engine 4.19. But what does that mean exactly? Well, we can expect dedicated server and client performance improvements from Fortnite, so that’s good news.
Server and client performance improvements are quite a stellar addition to Citadel: Forged With Fire, as a lot of players have been complaining about performance issues. The developers are well aware of all the problems that the game has, and they are focusing on them in order to quickly improve them as much as possible. The load performance will also improve as the game is switching to an Event Driven Loader, which means that assets won’t load more than once while the dependencies get referenced. Volumetric fog and auto group load conversions are also new rendering features that came with the new version of the engine.
The transition from the old version to the new one wasn’t as smooth as one would want it to be, but they managed to pull it off, and the developers did a full client performance pass of environment assets, which in simple terms means that things like grass, trees, rocks, terrain, and so on will render faster than they did in the past.
