CD Projekt Red Understand The Expectations Of Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red have built their reputation on making titles that continually exceed expectations and break many of the expectations that are put on RPGs. From where they started with The Witcher, to Assassins of Kings, and finally Wild Hunt, they’ve gone above and beyond the call more times than not. Wild Hunt especially was exceptional because not only did they deliver the great main story, but two massive expansions. So it’s not a stretch to say that there are a ton of expectations for their next title, Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development for years, and as part of that, CD Projekt Red wasn’t able to show anything for the game until this year at E3. And when it was shown, only certain things were revealed. But don’t think that this is going to the heads of the team, for they’re fully aware of both what’s expected of them, and how much more work there is to do.
“We still have a lot of work to go; because we have set the bar very high,” said CEO Adam Kicinski. “Expectations are also huge, which is clearly visible after our presentations at E3 – we are all very happy about the quality.”
Kicniski also noted one of the major reasons for the game taking so long to develop. Unlike with The Witcher, which was based on a popular book series overseas, Cyberpunk 2077 is original:
“The campaign must also take a long time. For the first time in years, we go out to fans with a new universe, we must present it to the largest group of players, show the rules governing it, build a history around it, but also awareness of the title among the mass audience.”
There’s no word on when the game will be released, but it’s expected to be at minimum next year.
