CD Projekt Red has been making Witcher games for a long time now. They had an agreement with Sapkowski, the author of the Witcher books. He chose to get a large payment right away instead of royalties for all the Witcher games. Then, when CD Projekt Red’s Witcher franchise started making the big bucks, Sapkowski got greedy. He demanded more money, and legal disputes ensued. After going back and worth, they came to a new agreement. CD Projekt has reaffirmed its new rights to “The Witcher” intellectual property. This includes video and board games, graphics novels, and merchandise.
This new agreement solidifies and reinforces the relationship that CD Projekt and Andrzej Sapkowski have. They’re keeping their lips shut, so details on this whole thing are not available to us at this time.
