Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 Had Major Sales In Opening Weekend
There’s a reason that people look forward to a game like Call of Duty every year (or pretty much every year). They understand what they are getting, they know that they are going to get quality, and with the major multiplayer aspect, they know that they are going to be playing it for a long time. But with Call of Duty Black Ops 4, things were different this go around. Mainly because there was no singleplayer campaign, a Battle Royale mode called “Blackout”, and other subtle changes that could effect how the game was perceived.
It could have…but it didn’t. Because Black Ops 4 (according to Activision) made over $500 million dollars in sales over its opening weekend. That’s right, $500 million in sales. That means that it did well over what Call of Duty WWII did, and far surprised what Black Ops 3 did upon its release years ago. So as you can see, the franchise ain’t close to be dead yet.
Ironically enough, there was a point before the official sales reveal where some were wondering whether the game would sell good. Not because it was doing bad in sales, but rather, the digital version seemed to be doing better than the physical version. And the $500 million was a combination of both physical and digital sales, which goes to prove that the game was popular digitally and physically, which actually is something to praise in a big way.
Rob Kostich, EVP and GM, Call of Duty noted in a press release:
“Our digital sales results have been record-breaking across all platforms, and the overall performance strong. We’re really excited about Black Ops 4’s momentum. There’s much more to come, we’re just getting started.”
The PC sales of Black Ops 4 was also impressive, they actually doubled what the last Call of Duty game did. So needless to say, this game is on its way to being one of the best-selling games of the year.
